From archive to interaction in onemonth for the Rotterdam Library

Evers + de Gier is een branding & digital agency uit Rotterdam. We combineren branding, UX en Webflow om websites, apps en merken te maken die niet alleen goed voelen, maar ook werken voor je organisatie.
The Atlas van Stolk, a collection of more than 300,000 images about Dutch history, got a new home at the Rotterdam Library last year. But history doesn't belong behind glass. That's why we developed the ErfgoedStudio together with the library. A digital platform that invites you to get started with the collection.
For the grand opening, three Rotterdam artists each selected a work from the collection and created a new work in response. These works are now on display in the library's central hall, along with an interactive touchscreen application that deepens the story.
Through the big screen, visitors discover the original and new works. They learn more about the makers, the context and the city. Heritage becomes something to play with, not just to look at.
We built the application in Framer, a no-code tool that allowed us to quickly iterate, test and fine-tune. In five weeks, we went from idea to interactive experience. Thanks to the direct development process, we had room for detail: smooth animations, sound effects and an interface that invites you to linger.
The exhibition was on display at the Rotterdam Central Library until 4 May 2025. See the full case here and play with the application yourself at erfgoedstudio.nl.
