Since 2018 we've been BeterDichtbij's design partner. Watched it grow from a small startup into a platform used by 1.5 million patients and 35,000 care providers across the Netherlands.

Most of that work was on the consumer side, the app patients use to contact their doctor. Care providers were in there too, but largely working from a desktop platform.

Last year BeterDichtbij asked us to design a dedicated professional app. The mobile counterpart to the existing web platform, but completely rethought for how care providers work on the go. Fast, focused interactions rather than scheduling and planning at a desk. Better UX than desktop, built from scratch.

Our role: translating the brief into wireframes and user flows, then testing those with actual care providers. The goal was something that feels as easy as WhatsApp but works in a clinical environment. Asynchronous communication, team collaboration, with the provider in control of when they respond.

One hospital replaced two out of three physical follow-up appointments with digital contact. That's 1,800 consultations and 300 hours of consultation time saved per year.

The app launched in February 2025 and is nominated for a Dutch Interactive Award by Emerce in the Health category.
